The GoBike project, inspired by contemporary developments, adopting best practices from international experience (both in the tourism sector and beyond), and taking into account local characteristics and capabilities, aims to facilitate the smart digital transformation of new forms of tourism. By leveraging modern technologies, the project "Development and Operation of Technological Applications for the Promotion of Cycling Tourism in the Region of Central Macedonia – GoBike" proposes the creation and operation of a technological system comprising an online platform and a mobile application for smart devices. This system will provide information services regarding cycling trails in the areas of Mount Olympus and the suburban forest of Seich Sou in Thessaloniki, categorized by level of difficulty and supplemented with information about points of tourist interest and cycling tourism services. For the Region of Central Macedonia, the development and promotion of this form of tourism represents a significant challenge and an opportunity to capture a substantial share of a new market, while also achieving an extension of the tourist season and mitigating the seasonality effects that have arisen from the predominant "sun and sea" tourism model.

The implementation of the project is expected to bring positive impacts to the wider area of the Region of Central Macedonia, contributing to the promotion of sustainable tourism forms that do not burden the environment, increasing tourism-related revenues, boosting employment, attracting new categories of tourists, and strengthening the region’s tourism identity.
